Who We Are
Our Priorities
Provide an online portal on children’s environmental health
Our aim is to provide information to Indiana families, educators, and health care professionals to help them keep the children in their care healthy where they live, learn, and play.
Reduce lead poisoning in Indiana
Exposure to lead can cause permanent damage to a child’s health. The biggest risk of lead exposure in Indiana occurs through lead-based paint. Most homes built before 1980, which make up 57 percent of Indiana’s housing, contain lead-based paint. Lead poisoning is 100% preventable. IKE is working with other organizations across the state to promote policies that protect children from lead poisoning and provide families with resources to get their children tested for lead.
Reduce the burden of uncontrolled asthma in Indiana
We are working to reduce air quality problems that make asthma worse. This includes work to reduce asthma triggers indoors and assistance to Indiana communities with air quality challenges. Our Healthy Spaces Happy Children program helps childcare facilities create asthma-friendly, environmentally healthy spaces for the children in their care.
