Spirit and Place Festival 2006
IKE and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis (UUI) will present a workshop as part of the 2006 Indianapolis Spirit and Place Festival. The mission of Spirit & Place is to stimulate conversation, collaboration, community building, and action in Indianapolis through a variety of events. The workshop will focus on UUI's efforts to become a "Green Sanctuary," a designation offered by the Unitarian Universalist Association to UU congregations that make a commitment to create a sustainable life style for its members as individuals and as a faith community. The Green Sanctuary program encourages congregations:
The workshop will be held on Saturday, November 11 at 615 W. 43rd Street (just south of the Butler campus) from 9 AM to 12 PM. Participation is free and all are welcome. If you are interested in attending, or would like more information, contact Janet McCabe at mccabe@ikecoalition.org or 902-3610. Following is the description of the Workshop that will appear in the Spirit and Place schedule of events: Religious establishments are becoming increasingly aware of the spiritual and moral responsibility to care for the Earth’s natural resources. Participate in a workshop to assess your own religious community’s impact on the environment , understand the spiritual and practical aspects of making a commitment to sustainable operations and become part of a network for environmental stewardship. You will learn how religious environmental activism, based on traditional religious and ethical principles, provides a strong voice for challenging others to implement innovative approaches to reduce their environmental impact and contribute to sustainable living. |
