Healthy Schools and Childcare

Children are more susceptible to environmental threats than adults.  With equal exposure, children's bodies become more heavily concentrated than that of adults due to higher respiratory rates and smaller body sizes.  And where do young, developing people spend a large portion of their school-age years?  That's right: at childcare and school.  That is why Improving Kids' Environment spends so much time and effort working to make school and childcare facilities and grounds as healthy as possible.

IKE works on a number of different fronts to make schools and childcare facilities healthier.  We have worked with the Indianapolis Office of Sustainability to encourage schools to implement no idling zones on school grounds.  We have convened an integrated pest management coalition in Indiana that works to encourage adoption and ease of implementation of safer pest management practices in schools.  All of this works continues.  Click on the links below to get more information about each of our efforts.
