Implementation of Indiana's 2008 Law on Lead Poisoning Prevention

In 2008, the Indiana General Assembly adopted Senate Enrolled Act 143, which addresses several aspects of lead poisoning prevention, including:

• Lead in consumer products

• Training in lead awareness for employees of stores that sell paint or painting products

• Training for contractors who disturb lead-based paint

• Lead in housing

• Prompt and accurate reporting of elevated blood lead levels in Indiana children

The law requires the Indiana State Department of Health to undertake a number of actions to implement the law:

• Establish the Indiana Lead-Safe Housing Advisory Committee, to develop recommendations to address preventing lead poisoning from Indiana's housing stock

• Adopt rules to address several elements of the law
