What About Child Care Centers?

Both SB-143 and HB-1250 would have authorized the Indiana State Chemist to adopt rules regarding the use of pesticides in child care centers. With the decision not to pursue legislation at this time, children at day care centers will not realize the protection the rules would provide. And these children, most under age six, are most sensitive to pesticides and inert ingredients.

Fortunately, the Indiana Pesticide Review Board is committed to developing a recommended policy for child care centers. And IDEM’s 5-Star Environmental Recognition Program provides some guidance. IKE will continue to work on this issue with the Board.
