| Pests and Pesticides in Schools Child Care Centers Left Out? A major downside to the failed state legislation is that the Indiana State Chemist did not get the authority to mandate safer pest control for child care facilities. IKE will be pursuing legislation in the coming year and the Indiana Pesticide Review Board has committed to developing recommendations. Contact Tom Neltner at mccabe@ikecoalition.org if you want more information on the committee's work. For more information on IKE's pesticide efforts. Also, IDEM has a 5-Star Environmental Recognition Program for Child Care Facilities that puts a special emphasis on pesticides use in child care facilities. Purdue Coop Extension Service also has a program to provide technical assistance to child care facilities regarding pesticide use. This program was funded by EPA Region 5 and IDEM. |
