Mercury Air Deposition Monitoring in Indiana

The U.S. Geological Service will be monitoring rainfall each week for mercury at four locations across Indiana. The system is designed to operate for the next three years. The monitors will be part of the National Atmospheric Deposition Program’s Mercury Deposition Network.

The project was made possible by IDEM. Using resources from both its air and water programs, IDEM is providing 80% of the $500,000 funding.

The monitors will located at:

  • Dunes National Lakeshore in Porter County
  • Huntington Reservoir in Huntington County
  • Bloomington Airport in Monroe County
  • Clifty Falls State Park in Jefferson County.
