Janet G. McCabe becomes IKE’s New Executive Director June 6, 2005 - Version in pdf
We are pleased to announce that Janet G. McCabe is the new executive director of Improving Kids’ Environment effective June 6, 2005!
Improving Kids' Environment is a non-profit, advocacy coalition located in Indianapolis that facilitates tangible and significant improvements to children’s health through reductions in environmental threats to children. Founded in 1999 by Tom Neltner, IKE has focused on healthy homes, lead poisoning prevention, mercury, combined sewers, and asthma. For more information about IKE, check out www.ikecoalition.org.
IKE’s President, Richard Van Frank said “IKE is excited to have someone of Ms. McCabe’s caliber replace Tom Neltner.” Ms. McCabe is a graduate from Harvard Law School with more than twenty years of experience protecting public health and the environment. Since 1993, she worked for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management’s Office of Air Quality in various leadership positions. She was the office’s Assistant Commissioner from 1998 to 2005. As Assistant Commissioner, she oversaw all aspects of Indiana’s air pollution control programs, including rulemaking, permitting, monitoring, inspections, and outreach. Her office also included Indiana’s asbestos and lead-based paint activities programs.
Before coming to Indiana in 1993, Ms. McCabe served as Assistant Attorney General for environmental protection for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Assistant Secretary for Environmental Impact Review overseeing environmental impact revised of major public and private projects.
IKE’s Tom Neltner said “Janet and I started at IDEM at the same time. While at the agency, I was impressed with her dedication to protecting public health, her ability to analyze a situation and get to the heart of the problem, her ability to lead the office, and work through tough issues with diverse stakeholders. My respect for her grew in the six years that I have been working on children’s environmental health, She was there when we needed her. She is just what IKE needs as it makes this crucial transition.”
