Becoming a Lead Abatement ContractorWednesday, November 6 from 2:40 pm to 4:45 pm – Willkie Room

Indiana needs more lead abatement contractors – especially rehab contractors who are willing totake the extra steps necessary to conduct an EPA-regulated abatement project. Many contractors are willing but the State’s contractor application can be intimidating and confusing. This hands-on session is designed to help the potential abatement contractor get the paperwork in the form that IDEM can accept and then set up the procedures to ensure compliance with the regulations. Bring your laptop so you can get a good start on the forms at the session.

If you are a contractor planning to attend the special workshop on "Becoming a Lead Abatement Contractor," you should attend this session.  It will help you get the latest word on the need for abatement contractors and what opportunities for new business you may have if you become a licensed lead abatement contractor.

A CD-ROM will be on sale for $100 with the forms and documents you need to become a licensed lead abatement contractor.

Speaker:     Joan Ketterman – Lead Training Director, Environmental Management Institute

Mold and Healthy Homes – Wednesday, November 6 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm – Salon D & E

Mold is becoming a concern for many families. Apartment buildings have been closed due to mold. Families have evacuated their home leaving most of the belongings behind. Insurance companies are excluding all liability for mold repairs or injuries from homeowner policies. The state now must investigate complaints about mold (and other air toxics) in schools and propose solutions. Like most states, Indiana is grappling with the issue and unsure of the options. However, leaving families in the cold unable or unwilling to live in their home is a challenge we must confront.

During the afternoon session, participants got the opportunity to discuss what steps the State of Indiana should take to respond to problems and concerns with mold. In contrast, in this session, participants will learn more about responses they need to consider when they find mold in their or their client’s home.

Moderator:   Tom Neltner – Executive Director, Improving Kids’ Environment

Speakers:     Dr. Jack Leonard – President, Environmental Management Institute

Steve Ambro – General Manager, A/P Home Inspections and Mgmt Company
