| Leveraging Local Resources for Prevention Plaza D It takes money, people and time to get work done. But finding those resources is often the biggest challenge for local programs. While large federal grants are available, the most successful programs leverage local resources through partnerships, community foundations, and specialized state and federal programs. This session will help participants understand how to identify those resources and how to develop the networks to take advantage of those resources. The emphasis will be on leveraging resources – donated or otherwise - not just grants. Moderator: Cathy Nordholm – Indiana State Department of Health: Ms Nordholm has served as the Director of the ISDH's Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program since 1995. In 2000 she added the Certificate for Fundraising Management from the IU Center for Philanthropy to two education degrees. From her thirty-something years of experience in public health, she will focus on additional resources, which may not be included by the presenters. Speakers: Renae Brantley – HealthVisions Midwest: Ms. Brantley is the grant writer for HealthVisions Midwest providing special support for the Lake County Get the Lead Out Task Force. She will focus on the networks and resources she has identified in her community. Marcia Pierce – U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development: Ms. Pierce is with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a community builder. She specializes in the areas of lead-based paint, public housing issues, relocation; and, is first point of contact for Bartholomew, Carroll, Clinton, Cass, Grant, Elkhart, Miami, Putnam, Montgomery, Tipton and Wabash Counties. Prior to joining HUD last year, she served as executive assistant and special projects coordinator for the Indianapolis Housing Agency. Ms. Pierce led many of the programs that contributed to IHA’s removal from the HUD’s “Troubled Housing List.” She will focus on the HUD resources that are available and how she can help as a community builder. Mark Young – Indiana Housing and Finance Authority: Mr. Young is the expert on lead poisoning prevention, especially the HUD rules, at IHFA. He will focus on the state funding opportunities and examples he has seen across Indiana where programs have leveraged local resources
