| Frequently Asked Questions Regarding 8-Hour Training-The-Trainer for the Lead Hazard Reduction for Maintenance Workers and Painters Course offered by the Environmental Management Institute Can I teach the 4-hour training course without completing the 8-hour Train-the-Trainer course? No. EMI has copyrighted the course and limits its use of the copyright to those who have completed the 8-hour Train-the-Trainer course and registered with EMI. EMI’s approval is needed to teach the class. EMI wants to assure itself and its customers that people offering the class have basic understanding of the materials and can teach the class reasonably effectively. What are the prerequisites to participating in the 8-hour course? EMI requires that course participants either have an education certificate or have experience in adult education. EMI asks that registrants verify their experience when registering and provide a list of adult education courses taught in the past twelve months. EMI established this requirement because of the limited time available in an 8-hour course. The focus of the course is on the lead-poisoning issues and the details of this course. Additional time is needed to provide training on basic training skills. EMI can offer a 12-hour Train-the-Trainer course for individuals who do not meet these requirements. Please contact Brenda at EMI for more information at 800-488-8842 or 317-248-4846 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Eastern Standard Time. What must I do to teach the 4-hour course after completing the 8-hour Train-the-Trainer course? You must register quarterly with EMI. You will be automatically registered for the first quarter after you take the 8-hour course. Registrations can be made via EMI’s web page or also by mail. In subsequent quarters, you will need to:
EMI reserves the right to refuse a registration if there is strong evidence that the course is not being effectively presented or there are other similar concerns. What does EMI provide me as part of the registration? EMI will provide registrants with:
Materials will provided on a February, May, August, and November schedule. Is this course HUD approved? No. HUD does not approve train-the-trainer courses. Where can I get additional coursebooks? If you are registered with EMI as described above, you may copy the coursebooks for participants in classes that you teach. You may also purchase the coursebooks from EMI for $20 a set. The set includes the coursebook and the HUD Lead Paint Safety: A Field Guide for Painting, Home Maintenance Work, and Renovation Work. Quantity discounts are available. |
