Snapshots of Activities:  August 2000

• Next meeting of the IKE Lead Poisoning Prevention Task Force is 10:30 am to 3:00 pm on Sept. 7 at Marion County Health Department.
• Congresswoman Julia Carson and IKE asked the Consumer Products Safety Commission to ban lead from candle wicks. Hard to believe it is still allowed. The CPSC also has taken some enforcement actions regarding lead in window blinds.
• IKE is planning a statewide lead-safe Indiana conference for June 2001. We are looking for volunteers to help design the conference.
• Campaign for Lead-Safe America will soon have materials ready to help local prevention efforts.
• National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week is October 22 - 28.
• The Ft. Wayne Lead-Safe Coalition continues to make progress implementing their aggressive education and outreach plan.
• HUD rules go into effect.
• ISDH screening guidelines and case management requirements adopted.
