IKE Gets By With Help From Its Friends

No organization succeeds on its own. This is especially true for non-profit advocacy groups, such as IKE, seeking to change the status quo. IKE and its executive director, Tom Neltner, wish to thank the following people and organizations for their support:

  • LaRita Boren and the Boren Foundation for their generous grant of $10,000.
  • Jack Leonard for his generous donation of $5,000 — his second annual donation.
  • Dick Van Frank and Sarge Visher for their on-going counsel and support.
  • Dawn Harvey Horth and Cinergy for a $2,000 supplemental grant for the IKE newsletter.
  • The Environmental Management Institute for continuing to serve as the 501(c)(3) incubator for IKE.
  • Dave McCormick, Pam Thevenow, Jill Messmer, Rosy Hansell and the Marion County Health Department for facilitating IKE’s early work on lead poisoning prevention and other health issues.
  • Jane Dustin of the Izaak Walton League for her insight and guidance on water quality issues.
  • Bill Beranek for facilitating discussions among stakeholders on key issues. Without Beranek’s Indiana Environmental Institute, there would be no forum for constructive discussions on tough state environmental policy issues.
  • Mark Young and the Indiana Housing and Finance Authority for stepping beyond the mandates of HUD regulations and fostering a cohesive and productive approach to lead-safe housing throughout Indiana. Also, for its $9,000 grant to support the Lead-Safe Indiana Conference.
  • Sierra Club, Hoosier Environmental Council, and Save the Dunes for ongoing guidance and general support of children’s health efforts.
  • EPA Region 5 for its $32,000 grant to establish the Indianapolis Urban Pesticide Initiative.
  • Eli Lilly and Company and the City of Indianapolis for their $2,500 donations to the Hoosier Health: Sewage in Our Streams conference.
  • Don Ryan, Ralph Scott, Ellen Tohn and others at the Alliance for Healthy Homes
  •   for their technical support, cheerleading and policy guidance.
  • Art Umble of the City of Elkhart for his expertise and judgment.
